Technical Notes:

1. For all types of bicycle wheels, a hard strike on the rim is likely to result in rim damage. At the point of impact, an aluminum rim will dent, and a carbon rim may delaminate. Both are unsafe conditions that require rim replacement.
2. Tire pressure = 75psi MAX
3. We do NOT recommend hanging a bike equipped with Vanquish or Jet wheels from hooks. This can damage the carbon skin and will not be covered under warranty.

What Makes a Disc Wheel Different

A rear disc wheel replaces the open spoke pattern of a traditional wheel with a solid disc cover, and that one design change is responsible for a real aerodynamic advantage at race speeds. Spokes turning through the wind create turbulence and aerodynamic drag. A disc cover keeps airflow clean, cutting air resistance behind the bike where it matters most on a flat time trial or triathlon course.

The solid form also makes the wheel stiffer than a spoked rear wheel, which translates into more direct power transfer when you put down watts and a more responsive feel out of corners or during a hard effort.

How HED Builds an Aero Disc for Race Day

Every HED aero disc starts with a rim profile validated in the wind tunnel with tires mounted and inflated to real-world pressures. That testing methodology matters because a rim's aerodynamic performance changes once a tire is seated, and HED established this approach as an industry standard.

From there, the wheel is hand-built at our Roseville, Minnesota facility with even spoke tension, a HED Pro 5-pawl hub, and a disc cover engineered to cut aerodynamic drag without sacrificing stiffness. The Vanquish Pro takes it further with full carbon fiber construction and a 22.5mm internal rim width for the best performance with modern, wider tires.
